About Me

Hi, my name is Mike Pakulak, aka Pak.
I'm a Mechanical Engineer turned Software Developer / Site Reliability Engineer.

I thrive on solving complex problems and building resilient systems. I’m passionate about the intersection of technology, performance, and reliability—where automation meets scalability. My day-to-day work involves keeping high-traffic applications running smoothly, improving observability, and ensuring deployments are seamless and recoverable.

Before transitioning into software, I worked as a product engineer designing components for both the Department of Defense and the automotive industry. That hands-on engineering background taught me the importance of precision and durability—principles I carry into my software work today.

Whether I’m deploying infrastructure, optimizing code paths, or monitoring production systems, I’m driven by curiosity, continuous learning, and a love for technology that never sits still.

In my personal life I'm a dad to 3 beautiful daughters and a husband to an amazing wife who has supported every endeavor I've embarked on. They keep me on my toes and always evolving to be a better person for them.

Software Development Experience

General Assembly

During my tenure at General Assembly's Software Engineering Immersive, I was tasked with learning and building web applications utilizing React, Javascript, Node.js, MongoDB, Express.js and Ruby on Rails. I spent a lot of time integrating API's, designing web apps utilizing Figma diagrams, and finally building custom apps to demonstrate the knowledge I had gained.

MSB Holdings, Inc.

MSB Holdings, Inc. & Rugiet Ready are transforming the telehealth market by connecting doctors, patients & pharmacies all inside a telehealth platform to make the prescription process simple and convenient. I worked on the telehealth platform utilizing Ruby on Rails/Ruby to build components and features.

Recruitful

Recruitful is an agile, integrated recruiting team utilizing automated sourcing platforms, AI & experienced recruiters to fulfill a company's hiring needs quickly and efficiently. I was responsible for integrating web apis, building automation and streamlining the technology process so that the recruiters could focus their time on talking to candidates.

Beacon Interactive Systems

Beacon Interactive is a DoD contractor supplying software based solutions for the Army, Navy, Airforce & Secretary of Defense. I worked on a web application utilizing Angular/Typescript/Ruby on Rails building custom features and components, streamlining SQL queries and database efficiency.

Zelis Healthcare

Zelis Healthcare is a technology company specializing in healthcare cost management and payment solutions, providing services to payers, providers, and patients. My role as a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) was to ensure the reliability, availability, and performance of their systems and applications. I worked on automating processes, monitoring system performance, and implementing best practices for incident management and disaster recovery.

DriverReach

DriverReach was a company that provided a recruiting and compliance management system for the transportation and trucking industry. My role there as a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) was to ensure the reliability, availability, and performance of their systems and applications. I was working on upgrading the technical stack to a newer version of Ruby as well as preparing for an upgrade to a newer version of Rails. DriverReach was acquired by Tenstreet in 2025.
